Hey Mom and Family!
Things here are great as ever!!!! This week has been a good one just like the rest of course! It's been a little more chill as well but I'm very glad to hear everything is great with the family and you all are being blessed because I definitely feel your prayers coming my way for sure.
Fall season is around the corner huh? Well that's good for you guys because it has been WAY hot here this week!!!! Also this week it rained cats and dogs - it came down so hard! Some of my stuff got ruined but that's part of the experience - welcome to the Dominican Republic right?? Haha. It was way great!!!
This week we had some cool little experiences. This lady we are teaching her name is Mirian. She is like a golden investigator, she read the Book of Mormon in like 2 and half to 3 weeks!! Crazy, and she bore testimony to us of its truthfulness and then pretty much asked if we would Baptize her!! It was awesome! So she will be baptized here soon! We have another date coming up with a 15 year old kid -his name is Edward! he is a huge kid for only 15 but he is very very smart and really wants to know the truth. Things are well with him and we also have plans to baptize him as well. I sure love this Gospel and sure love the opportunity I have to be a part of it and a part of the lords work everyday! This week we had an intercambio as well and so I went with Elder Betteridge from Nevada and he is a beast - we had a great time! We went out and worked hard! He had ecoli or however you spell it - its when food isn't cooked all the way and you get sick from it and he also had another kind of bacteria but he was still excited as ever to work! It was way fun. We met a guy in a colmado ( a little place to get drinks and snacks) and it was raining like crazy so we stopped in there for a little while and we met Fran. My comp and I want go visit him because his mother recently died and he said that now he feels like God doesn't love him and and doesn't know him and things so i think its gonna be a good experience to bear testimony to him as well.
The language is coming along. I can understand alot better what they are saying but its alot more difficult for me to talk back because i still have the GRINGO accent, haha! But it truly is coming along! I have improved a ton! Its hard to understand at times because the letter S doesn't exist here. They like never include it so its hard to catch alot - but the gift of tongues is evident! I surprise myself in lessons sometimes with the things I say because I have no idea what exactly I'm saying but they understand completely so its pretty awesome!
Some challenges we have here are teaching the Law of Chasity and Word of Wisdom! It is hard because those things are just accepted here. It's also hard to get members to come with us to lessons because they work late into the night - like everyone does! So it gets difficult! This week in sacrament meeting a return missionary gave his talk in church and he told the members how it is and how they need to help us out so it was cool for sure!
But guess who comes tomorrow!?!?! My boy JT! I'm so pumped! I cant wait to get him here so we can share experiences together and talk about the DR. Its gonna be so sweet - I cant wait!!! Just know everything is great here in the Dominican Republic and I'm loving every minute of it! I'm healthy and happier than ever! It makes me happy to know you guys are healthy and happy as well and everyone is doing well! I sure love you all so much! Keep up the good work and I'll talk to ya next week!
Love Elder Reidhead
